Description

In 2008, for sample adults who have fallen in the past 12 months, and in 2016, for sample adults who have fallen at least once per month in the past 12 months, this variable indicates whether the person had an injury as a result of a fall. The survey text provides the example of an injury as, "a bruise, cut or wound, sprain, dislocation, fracture, broken bones, back pain, head, or neck injury." Earlier in the survey, interviewers told persons that a fall was defined as, "unexpectedly dropping to the floor or ground from a standing, walking or bending position."

The question for this variable occurred as part of the Sample Adult Balance Supplement, sponsored by the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders.
