Description

For sample adults who had participated in gardening in the past 2 weeks (EXYARD), EXYARDBR reports whether respondents usually experienced a small, moderate, or large increase, or no increase at all in their heart rate or breathing while gardening.

After determining that a respondent participated in aerobics or aerobic dancing, respondents were first asked, "How many times in the past 2 weeks did you participate in gardening?" (EXYARDNO). They were then asked, "On the average, about how many minutes did you spend gardening each time?" (EXYARDMIN). Finally, to obtain information for EXYARDBR, respondents were asked, "What usually happened to your heart rate or breathing when you participate in gardening? Did you have a small, moderate, or large increase, or no increase at all in your heart rate or breathing?"
