Description

For sample adults who had participated in walking in the past 2 weeks (EXSTAIRS), EXSTAIRSBR reports whether respondents usually experienced a small, moderate, or large increase, or no increase at all in their heart rate or breathing while walking.

After determining that a respondent participated in aerobics or aerobic dancing, respondents were first asked, "How many times in the past 2 weeks did you go walking?" (EXSTAIRSNO). They were then asked, "On the average, about how many minutes did you spend walking each time?" (EXSTAIRSMIN). Finally, to obtain information for EXSTAIRSBR, respondents were asked, "What usually happened to your heart rate or breathing when you go walking? Did you have a small, moderate, or large increase, or no increase at all in your heart rate or breathing?"
