Description

For sample persons aged 65 and older in 1995 who do not have meals delivered by an organization or for whom this information was unknown and, sample person aged 65 and older in 1998, EXERCLASYR reports if the person participated in an exercise class or exercise program in the past 12 months.

Comparability

Changes in the universe may affect the comparability of this variable. Changes in survey design (e.g., quarters in which the supplement was collected) may affect raw frequencies, but do not affect comparability of the variable. As always, data users should use the prescribed IPUMS NHIS weights.

Universe

  • 1995: Half of sample persons age 65+ (excluded from AIDS supplement) who do not have meals delivered by an organization or for whom this information is unknown
  • 1998: Sample adults age 65+.
