Description

For female sample persons aged 40 to 60 who have discussed estrogen use with a health care provider, ESTROBONE reports if the person's medical doctor or other health care professional has ever discussed with her about the pros and cons of taking estrogen to prevent bone loss after menopause. Please see the Universe tab for detailed information on changes to the universe between samples.

Comparability

Changes in survey design (e.g., quarters in which the supplement was collected) may affect raw frequencies, but do not affect comparability of the variable. As always, data users should use the prescribed IPUMS NHIS weights.

Universe

  • 1994: Half of female sample adults age 40 to 60 (excluded from AIDS supplement) who discussed the pros and cons of estrogen with a doctor or health professional.
  • 1998: Female sample adults age 40 to 60 who have discussed estrogen use with health care provider.
