Description

For children under age five, EARINFYRNO reports the number of middle ear infections the child had in the past 12 months. The term "middle ear infection" was respondent defined, as a definition was not provided to the respondent and not given in the Field Representative's Manual. The inquiry did not specify that the ear infections had to be diagnosed by a doctor or other health care professional.

A similar variable, EARINFYR, whether the child had three or more ear infections during the past twelve months, is available for 1997 forward.
