Description

For sample persons ages 40 and over, DRXEVR2 is a recoded variable that reports whether the respondent has ever had a digital rectal exam, based on responses to DRXHREV and DRXEV. DRXHREV reports whether the respondent has heard of a digital rectal exam, and DRXEV reports whether a respondent who has heard of a digital rectal exam has ever had such an exam.

DRXEVR2 recodes information from DRXHREV and DRXEV to report whether the respondent has never had a digital rectal exam, never heard of such an exam, has had such an exam, had heard of the exam but refused, did not know, or was not ascertained whether they had such an exam, or did not answer either question. This recoded variable may be more comparable with subsequent responses to DRXEV in which all sample persons ages 40 and over were asked whether they have had a digital rectal exam without a prior screening question.
