Description
For sample persons ages 40 and over, DRXEVR1 is a recoded variable based on responses to DRXHREV and DRXEV that reports whether the respondent has ever had a digital rectal exam. DRXHREV reports whether the respondent has heard of a digital rectal exam, and DRXEV reports whether a respondent who has heard of a digital rectal exam has ever had such an exam. DRXEVR1 combines persons who reported never having a digital rectal exam with persons who reported never hearing of a digital rectal exam. This recoded variable may be more comparable with responses to DRXEV in which all sample persons ages 40 and over were asked whether they have had a digital rectal exam without a prior screening question.
