Description

For sample persons age 18 and older who have ever had diverticulitis and did not say they never saw a doctor for diverticulitis, DIVDIAGBAR indicates if she/he ever had a barium enema to diagnose her/his diverticulitis. Interviewers were instructed to read the following, if necessary: "For this X-ray, you would have been given an enema containing barium and X-rays of your abdomen would be taken."

This variable is part of the 1989 Digestive Disorders supplement, fielded to provide data on the nature and prevalence of symptoms attributed to disorders of the lower digestive tract in the adult population. The data provide prevalence estimates on certain common digestive disorders and complaints.
