For persons who had serious difficulty concentrating, remembering, or making decisions, DISCONPWHY indicates the main reason they had serious difficulty concentrating, remembering or making decisions. In 2017, this variable was collected for persons 5 and older selected for the Family Disability Supplement who had serious difficulty in concentrating or remembering due to a physical, mental, or emotional condition (DISCONP). Beginning in 2018, this variable was collected for sample adults aged 18 and older who had some difficulty, a lot of difficulty, or were unable to remember or concentrate, or did not know or refused to indicate whether they were able to remember or concentrate (LAMEMCONDIF).
