Description

For sample adults and sample children, DIAPRE reports if the respondent was ever told by a doctor or health professional that they have prediabetes. In 2006, this variable was only available for sample adults who had never been told they had diabetes or were told they had borderline diabetes.

For related variables, please see DIABETICEV or use the IPUMS NHIS search function and drop-down menus.

Comparability

Apart from the changes in the universe beginning in 2019, DIAPRE is completely comparable over time.

The NHIS questionnaire was substantially redesigned in 2019 to introduce a different data collection structure and new content. For more information on changes in terminology, universes, and data collection methods beginning in 2019, please see the user note.
