Description

For sample adults who were ever told by a doctor or other health professional that they had diabetes (other than during pregnancy) (DIABETICEV), and who did not report usually seeing one particular doctor for their diabetes (DIAONEDR), DIANURSYRNO reports the number of times they saw a nurse or dietician for their diabetes in the past 12 months. Interviewers asked, "During the past 12 months, how many times have you seen a nurse or dietician for your diabetes? Do not include medical doctors."

If sample adults who had ever been diagnosed with diabetes reported usually seeing one particular doctor about their diabetes (i.e., an affirmative response in DIAONEDR), interviewers instead asked about the number of times they had seen that doctor for their diabetes in the past 12 months (DIADRYRNO).

Other diabetes-related questions were periodically included in the survey; see DIABETICEV for a summary of these variables currently in the IPUMS NHIS.
