Description
For sample adults for whom the difference between their current age (AGE) and their age when a doctor first told them that they had diabetes (DIABETICAGE) equaled 0 or 1, DIAGNOSYR indicates whether their diabetes was diagnosed within the last 12 months.
Those responding affirmatively to DIAGNOSYR were asked the follow-up question, "When was it diagnosed?" (DIAGNOSYRMO), and their responses were grouped into 3-month groups.
Other diabetes-related questions were periodically included in the survey; see DIABETICEV (Ever told had diabetes) for a summary of these variables currently in the IPUMS NHIS.
