Description

For female sample adults age 18 and older who reported having diabetes separately from gestational diabetes or diabetes while pregnant (DIABETICEV), DIAGESTALSO reports if the respondent was first told that she had diabetes or gestational diabetes while pregnant.

For information on female sample adults who did not report having diabetes other than gestational diabetes or diabetes while pregnant, see DIAGESTONLY. For related variables, please see DIABETICEVor use the IPUMS NHIS search function and drop-down menus.

Comparability

There are slight changes in the phrasing of the exact survey question, as well as universe-defining survey questions in different survey years. Researchers should carefully review differences in universes before making comparisons.

Changes in survey design (e.g., quarters in which the supplement was collected) may affect raw frequencies, but do not affect comparability of the variable. As always, data users should use the prescribed IHIS weights.
