Description
For female sample adults aged 18 and older (and in 2016 and 2017, who have ever been pregnant), this variable reports if the person was ever told by a doctor of other health professional that they had diabetes, sugar diabetes, or gestational diabetes during their pregnancy.
In 2016 and 2017, this variable was part of the Sample Adult Diabetes supplement, sponsored by the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) and National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (NCCDPHP).
Comparability
Questionnaire design changes introduced in 2019 limit comparability with earlier years. The NHIS questionnaire was substantially redesigned in 2019 to introduce a different data collection structure and new content. For more information on changes in terminology, universes, and data collection methods beginning in 2019, please see the user note.
