Description
For persons ages 18 and older with confirmed diabetes., DIACHEB reports the total number of biological children the person has ever had. Respondents were instructed to exclude step, adoptive, or foster children, and female respondents were additionally instructed to exclude stillbirths and miscarriages.
This variable was included in the 1989 Diabetes supplement and is complementary to CHEB, which in 1989 was asked of sample persons who did not have diabetes. For related variables, please use the IPUMS NHIS search function and drop-down menus.
