Description

For all persons under age 18, DADED reports the education level of the person's father in intervalled groups.

Users may be interested in using the IPUMS NHIS family interrelationship variables instead of DADED. These variables allow users to identify a person's (probable) coresident spouse/partner and/or parent(s), and make it easy to include characteristics about these family members as new variables in their data extracts. When using the IPUMS family interrelationship variables, not only can users attach information about a parent's education, but can also attach other characteristics of interest, such as parent's race, labor force status, and health insurance coverage, as new variables. The IPUMS variable POPLOC reports the location number of the person's coresident father.
