Description

For sample adults who were working at or were on temporary leave from a paid job or business last week, or who have seasonal/contract work, or who work but not for pay, or who did not have a job or business last week but did in the past 12 months, CVDJOBANYSD indicates whether social distancing measures are or were ever in effect at their current or recent job.

NCHS added nearly 30 questions related to COVID starting in quarter 3 of the 2020 NHIS questionnaire, eight of which are asked of both sample adults and sample children. For the full list of variables, as well as information about COVID-related changes to the NHIS, please see the user note.

Analysts will need to adjust the sampling weights to account for the limited collection period and sample changes in 2020. For an example of how to do this, including sample code, please see the sampling weight adjustment section of the Variance Estimation User Note.

Comparability

Other than changes in universe, there are no comparability issues. In 2020, this variable includes all seasonal/contract workers; beginning in 2021 it only includes seasonal/contract workers who worked in the past 12 months.
