Description

For sample adults, CVDFAMCAR12M indicates if they received care at home from a friend or family member in the past 12 months. The 2020 NHIS questionnaire further specifies that "A wide range of activities that a person may need help with can be considered care. For example, care at home can include personal tasks such as giving medications or helping with eating, dressing, or bathing or household tasks such as cleaning, managing money, or preparing meals."

NCHS added nearly 30 questions related to COVID starting in quarter 3 of the 2020 NHIS questionnaire, eight of which are asked of both sample adults and sample children. For the full list of variables, as well as information about COVID-related changes to the NHIS, please see the user note.
