Description

For female persons aged 18-49 who have given live birth in the past 5 years, CSSTOPEVPS indicates if the person ever stopped smoking for one day or longer because she was trying to quit smoking.

Comparability

Changes in the universe affect comparability of this variable. Please refer to the Universe tab for more information about changes in the universe across survey years.

Universe

  • 1991: Female persons aged 18-49 who have given live birth in the past 5 years, currently smoke every day or who currently do not smoke at all but smoked every day a year ago.
  • 1998: Female persons aged 18-49 who have given live birth in the past 5 years and smoked at least 100 cigarettes in their entire lifetime and currently smoke every day, some days or don't know smoking frequency status.
