Description

For sample persons age 18 and older who are current everyday smokers who have ever quit for reasons other than sickness only, CSQWHYOTH indicates if the person mentioned a reason she/he tried to stop smoking other than pregnancy, cost of cigarettes, concern about current/future health, or pressure from friends/family. Please see the Universe tab for detailed information regarding who was asked this question.

Comparability

There are no comparability issues with this variable.

Universe

  • 1992: Half of sample persons age 18+ in quarters 1 and 2 and in 2 weeks of quarter 3 (excluded from CAEP supplement) who have smoked at least 100 cigarettes, smoke cigarettes now, smoke every day, and have ever stopped smoking for 1 day or more, and whose reason for stopping was not ONLY because of sickness.
