Description
For sample adults age 18 and older, CSQTELINEYR indicates if the person used a telephone help line or quit line while trying to quit smoking during the past 12 months. Please see comparability section for description of universe changes between years.
Comparability
In 2005, this question was asked of sample adults who have smoked at least 100 cigarettes, are current smokers, and have tried to quit in the past 12 months.
In 2010 and 2015, this question was asked of sample adults who are current smokers and tried to quit in the last year, but was not restricted only to those who have smoked at least 100 cigarettes.
In 2022, this question was asked of sample adults 18 and older who tried to quit smoking in the past 12 months (CSSTOPEV).

Universe
- 2005: Sample adults 18+ who have smoked at least 100 cigarettes in their entire life who are current smokers that tried to quit in the past 12 months.
- 2010; 2015: Sample adults 18+ who are current smokers and tried to quit in the last year.
- 2022: Sample adults 18+ who tried to quit smoking in the past 12 months (CSSTOPEV).
