Description

For sample adults aged 40 years who have ever had a colonoscopy or both a colonoscopy and sigmoidoscopy (COLSIGEV), COLLESTY reports the number of years since the respondent's last colonoscopy in grouped years. Prior to 2019, COLLESTY was asked of sample adults aged 40 years and older who ever had a colonoscopy (COLEV), and who did not give the date of the most recent procedure or who selected years ago in the time period format.

Comparability

This variable is completely comparable prior to 2019. The NHIS questionnaire was substantially redesigned in 2019 to introduce a different data collection structure and new content. For more information on changes in terminology, universes, and data collection methods beginning in 2019, please see the user note.

Universe

  • 2010; 2013; 2015; 2018: Sample adults age 40+ who have had a colonoscopy and for whom the date of most recent colonoscopy was unknown, or who selected years for the time period format for duration since last colonoscopy (COLEV, COLLDMO, COLLDYR, COLLNO, COLLTP).
  • 2019; 2021: Sample adults age 40+ who have had a colonoscopy or both a colonoscopy and sigmoidoscopy (COLSIGEV).
