Description
For sample adults, CMPSUPPORT reports whether the person feels they receive more, less, or about the same amount of social and emotional support compared to 12 months ago. CMPSUPPORT was introduced in the third quarter of 2020 to ascertain information about the receipt of social and emotional support in comparison to the receipt of needed support before the coronavirus pandemic.
NCHS added nearly 30 questions related to COVID starting in quarter 3 of the 2020 NHIS questionnaire, eight of which are asked of both sample adults and sample children. For the full list of variables, as well as information about COVID-related changes to the NHIS, please see the user note.
Comparability
This variable is comparable over time; however, users should note that in 2020 this question was only fielded beginning in quarter 3. Analysts will need to adjust the sampling weight to account for the limited collection period. For an example of how to do this, including sample code, please see the sampling weight adjustment section of the Variance Estimation User Note.
