Description
For persons who had schizophrenia, paranoid or delusional disorder, manic episodes or manic depression, major depression, severe personality disorder, Alzheimer's or other senile disorder, or other serious mental or emotional disorder in the past 12 months, who had ever seen a mental health professional or other health professional about this disorder, and who took any prescription medication for this disorder during the past 12 months, CMIMED3 reports the third type of medication that the person took for his or her disorder(s).
[show more]The interviewers first asked the respondent how many different medication(s) that the person took or had taken in the past 12 months for his/her mental disorder(s). After confirming the number of medication(s), the interviewers then asked if they could see the container(s) of the medications(s) or if the respondent could bring the container(s) to the telephone so that the interviewers could record the container label. If no container was available, the interviewers would then ask for the name(s) of at most three medications. Please refer to CMIMED1 and CMIMED2 for additional information.
CMIMED3 is part of the Mental Health Supplement in 1989 that collects information on the amount and distribution of illness, its effects in terms of disability and chronic impairments, and the kinds of services people receive. For more information about this supplement and other related variables, please use the IPUMS NHIS search function and drop-down menus.
