For persons who mentioned that they had manic depression in the past 12 months and whose doctor or other health professional gave a diagnosis of manic depression but used another more technical or specific name to refer to manic depression, CMIMANDWHAT reports the technical or specific name that the person's doctor or other health professional used to refer to manic depression.
This variable is part of the Mental Health Supplement in 1989 that collects information on the amount and distribution of mental illnesses, its effects in terms of disability and chronic impairments, and the kinds of services people receive.
