Description

For persons who mentioned that they had any major depression in the past 12 months and whose doctor or health professional never gave a diagnosis of major depression but had ever used another technical or specific name to refer to major depression, CMIMAJDWC reports when the doctor or health professional first used this technical or specific name to refer to the person's major depression.

This variable is part of the Mental Health Supplement in 1989 that collects information on the amount and distribution of mental illnesses, its effects in terms of disability and chronic impairments, and the kinds of services people receive.
