Description

For persons who mentioned that they had any major depression in the past 12 months and who saw a doctor or other health professional for their mental disorder but was never given a diagnosis of major depression by their doctor, CMIMAJDSPEC reports if the health professional has ever used another technical or specific name to refer to the person's major depression disorder.

This variable is part of the Mental Health Supplement in 1989 that collects information on the amount and distribution of mental illnesses, its effects in terms of disability and chronic impairments, and the kinds of services people receive.
