Description

For sample adults and older who have ever smoked a cigar (2000-2016), or sample adults who ever smoked a cigar and who did not refuse to answer whether they had smoked 50 cigars in their lifetime (1998), this variable reports whether the person now smokes a cigar every day, some days, or not at all.

The 2015 Field Representative's Manual defines "Cigars include the little cigars called 'cigarillos' in English, along with little filtered cigars. In Spanish, 'cigars' are called 'puro regular,' 'cigarillos' are called 'un puro tipo cigarrito,' and 'little filtered cigars' are called 'puro pequeños filtrados.' Do NOT include 'cigarrillos' as cigars when conducting a Spanish interview because 'cigarrillos' means 'cigarettes' in Spanish."
