For sample adults age 18 and over who were employed in the last week in the private or public sector and who worked at a location or facility with 50 or more employees, CHOLCHEKWK reports if cholesterol screening tests were available at the person's workplace in the past year.

This variable was part of annual supplements (Adult Prevention in 1998 and year 2000 in 1994). For related variables, please use the IPUMS NHIS search function and drop-down menus.

Apart from changes in the universe, there are no comparability issues. Changes in survey design (e.g., quarters in which the supplement was collected) may affect raw frequencies, but do not affect comparability of the variable. As always, data users should use the prescribed IHIS weights.

  • 1994: Half of sample persons age 18+ (excluded from AIDS supplement) who were employed last week in the private sector or in federal, state, or local government and who worked at a location or facility with 50+ employees.
  • 1998: Sample adults age 18+ who last week were working at a job or business or temporarily absent from a job, who were employed for pay in a private company or for state, local, or federal government in a workplace with 50+ employees.
