For sample adults age 18 and over who have ever used chewing tobacco at least 20 times in their entire life, CHEWNODOC indicates if the respondent was ever advised to stop chewing tobacco by a medical doctor.
[show more]The term "chewing tobacco" was respondent defined. The Field Representative's Manual for 1992 mentions that using chewing tobacco includes chewing the tobacco or just placing it in the mouth. This definition was not routinely shared with respondents.
Respondents were also asked if they were advised to stop chewing tobacco by a dentist (CHEWNODENT).
