Description
For sample persons ages 18 and older who have at least two biological children who have been diagnosed by a doctor with cancer, CH2CAN reports whether the person can report a valid cancer code for his or her second child with known cancer. Please use drop down menus for related variables.
NHIS released versions of this variable for up to five biological children who were ever diagnosed with cancer, but there were no in-universe responses for three, four, or five children with cancer. As such, these variables are not included in IPUMS NHIS.
Universe
- 1987: Half of sample persons age 18+ (excluded from CACT) who have at least 2 children (or have an unknown number of children), who have any children diagnosed with cancer, and who reported at least 2 children as having known cancer.
