Description

CH1DIAC reports the type of cancer the sample person's first child with cancer was diagnosed with the FIRST time he or she was diagnosed with cancer. This was asked of sample persons ages 18 and older who reported that at least one biological child was ever diagnosed with cancer, provided the type of cancer which the first child was diagnosed as having, and reported that his or her first child with cancer was diagnosed with another type of cancer. Please use drop down menus for related variables.

NHIS released versions of this variable for up to five biological children who were ever diagnosed with cancer, but there were no in-universe responses for three, four, or five children with cancer. As such, these variables are not included in IPUMS NHIS.
