For sample persons aged 18 or under, BIRTHORDERR is a recoded variable that reports if the sample person is the youngest child, the only child, or the oldest child.

This recoded was based on two questions. The first question recorded the number of children that a woman had, excluding miscarriages and stillbirths. The second question indicated the birth order of the sample child.
