Description

For sample adults aged 18 and older who have never been tested for HIV, ATNOMAIN reports the main reason the person has not had an HIV test.

Comparability

Slight changes in response categories may affect comparability over time for ATNOMAIN. Beginning in 2001 the categories "don't like needles" and "afraid of losing job if positive for AIDS" were added. However, beginning in 2004, "afraid of losing job if positive for AIDS" was expanded to "afraid of losing job, insurance, housing, friends, family" if people knew about positive AIDS infection status. Otherwise there are no comparability issues.
