Description

For sample adults 40 years of age or older, ASPTAKE indicates if the respondent takes aspirin regularly to prevent or control heart disease (ASPMEDEV).

This variable was first introduced in 2012 as part of the Million Hearts® Initiative supplement.

In 2021, this question was only fielded beginning in quarter 2. Analysts will need to adjust the sampling weight to account for the limited collection period. Comparability

This variable is completely comparable prior to 2019. Comparability 2019 forward is affected by changes to the universe over time and the 2019 redesign. Questionnaire design changes introduced in 2019 limit comparability with earlier years. The NHIS questionnaire was substantially redesigned in 2019 to introduce a different data collection structure and new content.
