Description
For sample adults who were ever diagnosed by a doctor or other health professional as having "some form of arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, gout, lupus, or fibromyalgia" (ARTHGLUPEV), ARTHOTHEV identifies those who were told they had another joint condition. Interviewers asked, "Which of these were you told you had?" and listed "other joint condition" as a possible response. Other possible responses included:
- Arthritis (ARTHRITEV)
- Rheumatoid arthritis (ARTHRHEUMEV)
- Gout (ARTHGOUTEV)
- Lupus (ARTHLUPUSEV)
- Fibromyalgia (ARTHFIBROEV)
Respondents could report more than one condition, as interviewers were instructed to enter all that applied.
Comparability
ARTHOTHEV is only available in 2007.
Apart from the screening variable ARTHGLUPEV introduced in 2002, most of the other variables mentioned above are also only available for 2007. The exception is ARTHRITEV (Ever told had arthritis), which was asked of all sample adults in 2001 and covered all sample children for 1997 forward.
