Description

ARMFTIM5 indicates whether an individual aged 54+ in 2011, 55+ in 2012-2013, 56+ in 2014, 57+ in 2015, and 58+ in 2016 who has ever served in the U.S. Armed Forces, was active-duty during the Vietnam era from August 1964 to April 1975.

Active duty does not include training for the Reserves or National Guard, but does include activation for service in the U.S. or in a foreign country, in support of military or humanitarian operations. The value of the final annual person weight (WTFA) for active duty military personnel is zero, so they are not included in national (i.e., weighted) estimates.

Comparability

Aside from the shifting age range to account for the aging of Vietnam era veterans, there are no comparability problems with ARMFTIM5. This variable was introduced in 2011.
