For sample adults age 18 and older, ANXIETYEV reports responses to the question, "Have you ever been told by a doctor or other health professional that you had ... Any type of anxiety disorder?" If necessary, interviewers would add, "Some common types of anxiety disorders include generalized anxiety disorder, social anxiety disorder, panic disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and phobias."

The 2019 Field Representative's Manual defines Anxiety Disorders as, "differ[ing] from normal feelings of nervousness or anxiousness, and involv[ing] excessive fear or anxiety."
