Description

For sample persons age 55 and over, this variable indicates if the respondent ever had Alzheimer's disease. A definition of Alzheimer's was not provided to respondents and was assumed to be defined by the respondent. The inquiry did not require diagnosis by a medical doctor or health professional.

 

This variable was part of the 1984 Supplement on Aging, which asked respondents if they had or ever had vision, hearing, heart, and bone conditions and other impairments.
