Description
For sample persons age 18 and over, ALCURSTAT2 is a recoded variable reporting the person's current drinking status: non-drinker (never had any alcohol), non-drinker (less than 12 drinks in any one year), drinker, or had some drinks (and unknown whether the amount was more than 12 drinks in any one year).
ALCURSTAT2 was part of the Health Prevention and Disease Promotion supplement periodically included in the NHIS which helped measure national goals towards the Health People Initiative of the U.S. Surgeon General. Please use the IPUMS NHIS drop down menu and search functions for related variables.
