Codes and Frequencies
For sample adults and children in 2012 who had ever used acupuncture (ACUEV) but had either not seen a practitioner for acupuncture in the past 12 months or had never seen a practitioner for acupuncture, ACUSEYR reports whether they used acupuncture in the past 12 months.
Acupuncture was one of many alternative health treatment modalities included in the Alternative Health Supplements.
The 2012 Field Representative's Manual defines acupuncture as:
Field representatives were advised to "feel free to offer [this definition] even if the respondent has not requested [it]."
Additional information about the use of acupuncture was collected for respondents who reported using acupuncture in the past 12 months, including variables on frequency and cost of use. Please use the IPUMS NHIS drop-down menus and search function to explore these variables.
