Description

For sample persons ages 18 and over who had abdominal pain 3 or more times in the past 12 months, and did not report a non-digestive condition as the cause of such pain, ABPANLASTTP reports the type of time unit (minutes, hours, days) associated with the duration of the abdominal pain from the condition identified in ABPSELCON. ABPANLASTTP should be used in conjunction with ABPANLASTNO, which reports the corresponding frequency stated by the respondent. For the respondent's usual duration of abdominal pain recoded into intervals, see ABPANLASTR.

This variable is part of the Abdominal Pain section of the Digestive Disease Supplement, introduced in the 1989 survey. This supplement focuses on digestive conditions, primarily during the previous 12 months, to provide data for prevalence estimates on certain common digestive disorders and complaints. The Abdominal Pain section provides data to compare diagnosed and undiagnosed irritable bowel syndrome, and to describe pain accompanying this or other conditions that affect the abdomen.
