For sample adults aged 18+, GADSCREEN reports whether the respondent scores positive or negative for the two-item Generalized Anxiety Disorder scale (GAD-2). NHIS specifies that the GAD-2 "is a subset of the seven-item GAD-7 and is meant not meant to be diagnostic but rather a screener for further evaluation."

More precisely, GADSCREEN summarizes responses to two component variables:

• GADANX: during the past two weeks, bothered by feeling nervous, anxious, or on edge, and

• GADWORCTRL: during the past two weeks, bothered by not being able to stop or control worrying.

When summing over the values of GADANX and GADWORCTRL, respondents with scores below 3 are coded as negative and those with scores of 3 and above are coded as positive.
