For sample adults aged 18 and older who have ever received genetic counseling, GENCNSLRSN reports the main reason the person had genetic counseling. This variable is part of a series of genetic counseling and genetic test-related variables.
The 2015 Field Representative's Manuals explains "genetic counseling for cancer risk involves a discussion with a specially trained health care provider about your family history of cancer and how likely you are to develop cancer. It may also include a discussion about whether genetic testing is right for you".
