Description

For children under age 10, IPECACCH reports whether the person has Ipecac syrup in the household. Ipecac syrup is sometimes taken to cause vomiting after something poisonous is swallowed. The answer provided by the household sample adult was applied to the person record for any children under age 10 in the household; children's records should not be interpreted as meaning that the child knew whether there is Ipecac syrup in the house.
IPECACCH is part of the Health Promotion and Child Safety Supplement, first introduced in 1985. For related variables and more information about this supplement, please use the IPUMS NHIS search function and drop-down menus.
