Description
For sample adults in 2007 who had seen a practitioner for at least one movement technique (see below) during the past 12 months, MOVTYPMOST reports which type of movement technique for which the respondent had seen a practitioner most often.
Sample adults indicated whether they had seen practitioners for any of the following movement techniques during the past year:
- Alexander Technique (MOVALEXYR)
- Feldenkreis (MOVFELDYR)
- Pilates (MOVPILATYR)
- Trager Psychophysical Integration (MOVTRAGYR)
Because respondents could report having used more than one movement technique during the past year, MOVTYPMOST identifies which of the 4 movement techniques the respondent had seen a practitioner most often. Interviewers were given the instruction, "If respondent cannot choose one movement technique, probe for the one most important for health."
The movement technique identified in MOVTYPMOST is used to fill in question wording on many subsequent survey items. For example, MOVNO asks, "During the past 12 months, how many times did you see a practitioner or teacher for [fill: type of movement technique]?"
For more information on the full range of variables related to movement techniques, including definitions, see MOVALEXYR.
