Description

For sample children, VDIFREADYN indicates whether the individual wears glasses or contacts to "read books, write, play hand-held games, or do other things that require [child] to see well up close." Please see the Universe tab for changes in universe over time.

This variable is included in the Sample Child Vision Supplement, sponsored by the National Eye Institute.

  • 2008 2016 2017: Sample children age 6-17 who wear glasses or contact lenses.
  • 2023: Sample children age 0-17.
