Description

For sample persons age 20 and older in 1977, and, in 1979-1980, sample persons age 17 and older who require individual home care, FLTRANHELPR1 reports if she/he uses public transportation and if so, whether or not she/he receives or needs help from others when using public transportation, such as buses, trains, subways, or planes. For those who do not use public transportation, FLTRANHELPR1 reports whether or not she/he would need help if she/he were to use public transportation. See Codes tab for response categories.

Comparability

Changes in survey design (e.g., quarters in which the supplement was collected) may affect raw frequencies, but do not affect comparability of the variable. As always, data users should use the prescribed IPUMS NHIS weights.

Universe

  • 1977: Persons age 20+.
  • 1979-1980: Persons age 17+ who require individual home care.
