Description

For sample adults ages 18 and older, TOOTHLCH records their opinion of the main cause of tooth loss in children. Respondents were read the response categories-- tooth decay, gum disease, and injury to teeth -- and ask to choose the main cause.

TOOTHLCH was first introduced in 1985 as part of the Dental Health Supplement. Respondents were also asked about the cause of tooth loss by adults (see TOOTHLAD.) For related variables and more information about this supplement, please use the IPUMS NHIS search function and drop-down menus
